New Festival/Park Area
Approximately 23 acres southwest of the old schoolhouse
Project Overview
In partnership with Indy Parks, the design is almost ready for release to the public to hopefully begin the process of completing a new “center” for events and community enjoyment on this undeveloped area. The Wanamaker Revitalization Plan created by the community (over 200 participants) and adopted by the MDC for Indianapolis called for a variety of improvements in this area, including an amphitheatre, a festival building to host a farmer’s market, and a variety of community festivals including Old Settlers Days, Christmas in Wanamaker and future similar events. A variety of play equipment, courts for pickleball and basketball, a civic plaza with a smaller stage for programming by community groups, churches, etc. is also proposed. This project will require grant money, which will slow it down; but also secure that it will be done well. The details will be shared via community meetings and on this site as they become available.
